"Competing Through Innovation"
5/30/2000
The Council on Competitiveness focuses on "strengthening U.S. innovation, upgrading the workforce, and benchmarking national economic performance." With members including corporate chief executives, university presidents, and labor leaders, it helps shape the debate on issues relating to competitiveness in the United States. "Competing Through Innovation," the Web site for the Council, presents descriptions of the organization and its activities and insights into the state and nature of innovation in the U.S. The richest section of the site is "Benchmarking," where you'll find reports and measurements of R&D investment by the U.S, analysis of skills and talent of the U.S. workforce, and data on major innovation-heavy industry sectors, such as health care, information technology, automotive and advanced materials. It also includes a report on the Council's 1999 Innovation Index, a system for assessing the strengths of national innovation systems that was developed by professors Michael Porter of HBS and Scott Stern of the Sloan School at MIT.
