Financial and other aspects of employee ownership plans

The National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO) has created a valuable Web site for negotiating the complex financial, legal, administrative, and practical aspects of an ownership structure that has been adopted by approximately 15,000 U.S. companies. Through guides, interactive learning tools, and a collection of regularly updated columns, the site covers employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and other mechanisms by which companies share ownership with their employees. Established in 1981 as a nonprofit information and membership organization, NCEO's mission includes explaining what ownership plans are and how they work, helping companies get employee owners more involved in making workplace decisions, and reviewing other relevant research for members and nonmembers alike.
