The American work force: Who we are, what we're doing, where we're going.
7/1/2002
At the start of the new millennium, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics snapped this portrait of the American workplace. Here you'll find all kinds of demographics on the workforce, including ages, education levels, and pay. But you'll also see some topics you wouldn't necessarily expect, such as how retirement packages are changing, why married couples are working longer, and the ten fastest-growing occupations. There are some surprising tidbits too, such as: "Kids start working early. Half of twelve-year-olds have some work experience, primarily yard work or babysitting." The information can be downloaded as a PDF file, seen as a slide show, our perused through a table of contents.
