After Capitalism: From Managerialism To Workplace Democracy

    Understanding the future "alternative economy."
    12/3/2001
Seymour Melman, professor emeritus of industrial engineering at Columbia University, offers a provocative look at the future of managerial capitalism in After Capitalism: From Managerialism to Workplace Democracy. Melman, who has devoted much of his career to the study of the complex relationships between capitalism and militarism with roots traceable to the World II military economy, contributes his expertise to understanding the "alternative economy" he predicts for the future. He describes the evolution of the current structure of state capitalism, defining the characteristics and processes that will be necessary for the creation of a new economic structure based on the organization of production by way of workplace democracy.
