Common sense methodologies for operations management
    12/21/1999
Dr. Eli Goldratt formed this Institute (named after his late father) as a way of "improving the world in which we live through the development and dissemination of common sense methodologies." This heady mission comes from the man who pioneered the Theory of Constraints (TOC), a widely respected philosophy of operations management. Goldratt is also the author of Critical Chain and The Goal, business novels which addresses project management and manufacturing process issues (The Goal is required reading for Harvard Business School students). The site is used primarily as a forum to pitch the institute's workshop schedule and AGI Academy, but it does offer solid explanations and examples of TOC and its applications. A highlight is the "Success Stories" area, which features brief case studies of TOC implementation in various companies, including Ford and Boeing. The Library is also worth a visit - it includes transcripts of video presentations, a book excerpt, and many articles offering further insight into Goldratt's ideas.
