    Battelle: Technologys forecasts

Where did I leave that combination master DNA blueprint holder/front door key?
    12/23/2002
Battelle Memorial Institute develops and manages new technologies for government and other clients, and has developed technology forecasts with predictions out to 2020. For example, Battelle researchers predict that the top household products in 2007 will include home waste management systems, affordable high-definition TVs, and virtual reality projectors. Since most of these reports are ten-year forecasts, it's fun to look back at Battelle's educated guesses. The 2005 forecast, released in 1995, accurately foresaw (but not quickly enough) gene mapping, wireless data centers the size of a pocket calculator, and smart systems that control manufacturing. You'll have to wait until 2012, however, for the ultimate guy gift, a universal remote control that operates everything from your car door lock to the television. An interesting site for futurists and product developers to ponder.
