Walking the tightrope better.

This book represents an important way for CEOs, human resource professionals, and line managers to go deeper into solving work-family issues for their companies. Written by four specialists in the field, it moves beyond a discussion of mere "balance" and looks at how organizations can challenge their own practices and beliefs to better assist working families. Many of the family-friendly programs and initiatives offered by firms in the 80s and 90s, the authors write, were based on assumptions about gender roles that are just not relevant as family structures change. Their book is based on case studies in more than a dozen workplace settings and suggests good organizational approaches that respond to changing family structures without compromising the bottom line.
