Public debt: Do we really want to know how much we owe?

The U.S. Treasury has compiled a nifty site detailing everything to do with public debt—how much we owe, who holds it, how we can profit by it, and how it's regulated. On the how much we owe front, the number as of June 25 was $6,018,532,124,630.77—no rounding up here! How to profit by it? The site is a one-stop source for researching and purchasing savings bonds, T-bills, notes, and bonds. Here also is a wealth of information on government securities market scams and regulations. The layout is somewhat confusing—we suggest using the site index instead of the home page to get a clearer understanding of what's offered.
