    Call of the Mall

What's wrong with American shopping malls?
    4/19/2004
Author and retail consultant Paco Underhill strikes gold a second time in his latest book, Call of the Mall. Underhill reflects on the present state of malls and why, in some respects, they are failing. He asks questions that mall designers and developers should be asking themselves: Why not provide fine dining in the food court? What happened to mall directories? Where can people window shop? How is it possible to get mugged on the way to the bathroom? A day at the mall with Underhill as your guide is as enlightening as it is entertaining. Learn how difficult it is to buy a pair of jeans when you're looking for one feature: back pockets. Find out how lingerie stores make life difficult for male shoppers. And discover the intimate connection between shoes and cosmetics.—Sara Grant
