Insights from the "Moderns": the new women entrepreneurs
11/20/2000
Once upon a time, women entrepreneurs focused primarily on providing domestic types of services and skills. No longer, says Moore: the modern woman entrepreneur, she writes, is just as likely to be found in the male-dominated arenas of finance, insurance, manufacturing, and construction. But what really sets this new generation of women apart, she adds, is the considerable business experience they bring to what they do. In Careerpreneurs, Moore, Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Citadel in South Carolina, uses the experience of more than 100 such women to show the way past boundaries that so often restrict a woman's movement in the business world. She identifies patterns and basic skills that distinguish successful entrepreneurial women, offers a vocabulary to help women articulate their current positions in the market or within their organizations, and provides guidelines, exercises, and resources for women interested in developing their entrepreneurial capabilities within a traditional organization or on their own.
