China Dawn: The Story of a Technology and Business Revolution

How the wired world is hooking China.
    5/13/2002
How might the Internet change the face of China? In this lively read, Sheff, a journalist and contributing editor to Wired, Playboy, and Yahoo! Internet Life, uses personal profiles to demonstrate how the information business has taken root over the past several years. Players here include Edward Tian of AsiaInfo and Bo Feng, a venture capitalist. (In the preface, the author says he is an investor in Feng's venture fund, Chengwei.) Although the book is accessible, some readers may find the blow-by-blow details of meetings and meals distracting ("We were served soup in lidded white bowls with blue rims and glasses of jasmine tea followed by the restaurant's namesake, Beijing duck..."). Still, China Dawn gives a sense of the momentum and the hunger for opportunity.
