Tens of thousands of people make some or all of their living from sales on eBay, so when the company decides to change the branding of its eBay Stores program, the ripples through the seller community run deep.
EBay Stores allow sellers to offer their wares through customized pages—digital storefronts if you will. Store owners have a red tag displayed next to their user ID, which indicates to shoppers that the user has an eBay store. But eBay store owners have complained about that red tag motif, arguing it sends the wrong message.
EBay has now agreed and redesigned the logo and collateral materials for the program. The new logo debuts in June. The page featured here is eBay’s explanation for the change, and it represents an interesting look into logo dynamics marketing that many marketers can identify with.
