The government's take on customer service.
    3/25/2002
In 1993, based on a recommendation of Vice President Gore's National Performance Review, President Clinton issued an executive order that called on federal agencies to put customers first. Is the government following the Clinton mandate? Three government sites are at least making an effort. Customerservice.gov introduces the government's history, policies, and standards of measurement for improved customer service, including 4,000 standards for 570 federal departments, agencies, organizations, and programs. Last month, the government used its newfound service model to inspire the redesign of the FirstGov.gov site. You think you have a lot of information? FirstGov.gov, the self-described "online supermarket for Federal government information," is a gateway for more than 27 million pages. Also check out a site devoted to instructing congressional offices on how to make their Web sites more useful to constituents. The Congress Online Project: Assessing and Improving Capitol Hill Web Sites provides examples of best practices and tips. Includes a newsletter and research.
