Killer deadlines and how to deal with them.

If you think you operate under backbreaking deadlines, just imagine how FBI agents feel working on a kidnapping case. It's just that kind of real-world example that makes this book such an enjoyable and informative read. Also profiled here are a NASA Mars mission, Boeing's creation of the 777, Airborne Express' embrace of a new way to distribute movies to theaters, Turner Construction Company's building of a football stadium, and Conoco employees helping with disaster relief over a weekend. Each project was driven by drop-deadlines where non-performance wasn't an option. And each organization developed unique methods for dealing with the deadline. The book includes checklists derived from each example, and a summary that finds commonalities between all the examples, such as willingness to accept risk and embrace of the deadline date as sacrosanct.
