      Know-before-you-go business etiquette.
      3/25/2002
You may know that bowing (or ojigi) to your Japanese business associate is the proper way to express a greeting as well as "thank you." But did you know the gesture carries other meanings, from asking for a favor to conveying "I'm sorry?" This nicely laid-out site contains plenty of smart, know-before-you-go business etiquette as it applies to thirty-seven countries, from "A" (Australia) to "S" (South Africa), with China, India, and Egypt in between. The featured countries are all U.S. trading partners, but the guidelines are of practical use to businesspeople anywhere. Tips on how to negotiate a deal, entertain colleagues, select a gift, and respectfully address others, as well as advice on appropriate business attire are provided. And remember: When in Brazil, don't present your hostess with purple flowers—according to Executive Planet, they symbolize death.
