Many existing manufacturing planning systems are hampered by outdated scheduling processes, say Plenert and Kirchmier, leading advocates of Finite Capacity Scheduling (FCS). In this book, they aim to show how FCS can and should take its place alongside other manufacturing planning methodologies like Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Manufacturing Resources Planning (MRP II), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and others as a core element of an efficient production system. Aimed primarily at distribution, logistics and operations managers and scheduling and planning professionals, the book offers a comprehensive guide to a scheduling model that has been around since the early 80s but is just beginning to gain wider acceptance.
