    High Impact Philanthropy

Transformational giving: the Golden Age of Philanthropy
    7/2/2001
The Gates Foundation's recent donation of $100 million to support HIV/AIDS prevention is a prime example of today's brand of philanthropy: values-based and sharply focused on large societal change. The authors of High Impact Philanthropy argue that nonprofits are at "the crossroads of opportunity and challenge", and that "transformational" giving, in which donors are deeply engaged in issues, calls for shifts in the roles nonprofits play in local and global communities. High Impact Philanthropy is not a how-to book, but rather provides insight on the shifts in the worlds of donors and nonprofits alike. Since donor motivation is the key to transformational giving, say the authors, there will be an increasing commitment to true partnership among the community, nonprofits, and donor-investors.
