A study in world-class manufacturing.

Setting out with the goal to define "world-class manufacturing," these five INSEAD professors collaborated on a study of over 100 manufacturing plants during the course of an eight-year project. Using an award program originally established for industrial excellence, the authors share the results from some of the winning plants following best practices in quality manufacturing. Chapters cover the specific areas where these global companies excel: supplier integration at Alstom Transport Equipment, new-product development at Fresenius Medical Care, and strategy formulation at Solvay Automotive. Although these companies have factories primarily located in Europe, the lessons learned can be applied to many manufacturing facilities worldwide.
