The Westinghouse Works, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1904
11/13/2000
Whether you manage the operations of a manufacturing firm today, are fascinated by mechanical processes, or just have a love of old film footage, take a look at this real "inside view" of a major American manufacturer of the early twentieth century. A part of the American Memory Project at the Library of Congress, this online exhibit includes 21 films from the library's Westinghouse Works Collection. Featured are the Westinghouse Air Brake Company, the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, and the Westinghouse Machine Company. The films, made by the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company in 1904, were intended to showcase the company's operations and were shown daily in the Westinghouse Auditorium at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition held that year in St. Louis.
