Books about entrepreneurs are a dime a dozen, but this work is rare in spotlighting women entrepreneurs who overcame poverty to build successful businesses. Their stories are riveting, and all share an unblinking determination to succeed by almost force of will. The businesses founded by the women are diverse, including an automobile parts shop, an online retailer of high-end lamps, a street corner hot dog vendor, a childcare center, and a garden nursery. The grouping here is not randomeach entrepreneur received assistance from nonprofits supported by the Ms. Foundation for Women. The final chapters round up resources available to low income and women entrepreneurs.
