Business all-stars on managing innovation.
1/21/2002
This book, part of the Drucker Foundation's Wisdom to Action Series, brings together an all-star cast to write about fostering, managing, and capitalizing on innovation. The authors note that Peter Drucker believes the only two tasks of an organization are innovation and marketing. Harvard Business School contributors include Clayton Christensen ("Coping With Your Organization's Innovation Capabilities"), Rosabeth Moss Kanter ("Creating the Culture for Innovation"), and Dorothy Leonard ("The Value of 'Been There, Done That' in Innovation"). The strength of the collected works, at least for managers, is their being grounded in reality. There are lots of practical action items worth putting on your To Do list: everything from how to measure the effectiveness of innovation to rules for sidestepping innovation gone bad.
