    Making Diversity Work

    Reducing bias in the workplace.
    12/1/2003
Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the 21st century workforce is its diverse composition. In order for executives, managers, and workers at all levels to succeed in this widely expanding multicultural environment, they will need to focus on developing a skill that is commonly overlooked—reducing bias. Author Thiederman, who has a doctorate in cross-cultural studies, gears Making Diversity Work to individuals. Part I defines bias and presents explanations of how it is learned. Part II focuses on awareness of bias and offers a process of breaking down prejudicial habits of thought. Part III concludes with an emphasis on skills and techniques to make the often uncomfortable but valuable discussions of bias more palatable. Filled with numerous cases and examples, Making Diversity Work will help to enlighten and expand readers' minds.
