A remarkable life: David Rockefeller's Memoirs.
12/23/2002
Born in 1915 into one of America's greatest dynasties, David Rockefeller offers a unique view of life in twentieth century America in his memoirs. By describing a childhood spent in luxury to a remarkable life as a prominent businessman and philanthropist, Rockefeller weaves an engrossing story. Receiving his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago, David Rockefeller spent his career at Chase Manhattan Bank. Joining the bank in 1946 as an assistant manager in the Foreign Department, Rockefeller rose through the ranks, finally becoming chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Perhaps most absorbing are Rockefeller's accounts of his attempts to transform Chase Manhattan into a global banking giant; traveling the globe and meeting with political leaders such as Anwar Sadat, Mikhail Gorbachev, and the Shah of Iran.
