Chronicling the role of finance and the capital markets in American history
11/30/1999
A satisfying cyberstop for the financially curious, the Museum of American Financial History Web site offers a window on the role of finance and capital markets in American history. The museum, based in New York City, was founded in 1988 by securities dealer John Herzog. Its Web site includes online exhibits, as well as selected articles from the Museum's quarterly publication Financial History. Included in these features are timelines, biographies and stories of the likes of John D. Rockefeller (did you know he gave 10% of his income to charity even when he was just starting out as a clerk?) and Hetty Green (know as "the Witch of Wall Street"). If you're a real financial history buff, you can even download images of old stock and bond certificates to use as wallpaper on your computer desktop!
