Research this!

There is some serious research here. The National Bureau of Economic Research is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization "dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how the economy works." The site contains research from 600 university professors, as well as from NBER staffers. Examples of recent working papers give you a sense of the variety here: "Does Drinking Really Decrease in Bad Times?;" "An Empirical Investigation of Continuous-Time Equity Return Models;" "When Will the Germans Get Trapped in their Pension System?;" "Reforming Budgetary Language;" "Will Unionism Prosper in Cyber-Space?;" and "The Promise of the Internet for Employee Organization". So the main challenge facing the NBER user is deciding what information they want. Also on the site are book chapters, an interesting discussion of how the NBER Business Cycle Dating Committee dates and determines recessions, and a good list of links to sites of economic indicators.
