Many important court documents are buried in courthouses throughout the country, and accessing them can be costly. The easy-to-use PACER Service Center, which is operated by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, provides inexpensive access to a range of court filings including Federal Appellate, District, and Bankruptcy courts, and from the U.S. Party/Case Index. Users must first register and provide billing informationthe system charges 7 cents per page, or 60 cents per minute for dial-up access. Available information includes:
- A listing of all parties and participants including judges, attorneys, and trustees
- A compilation of case-related information such as cause of action, nature of suit, and dollar demand
- Chronology of dates of case events entered in the case record
- Claims registry
- New cases daily
- Appellate court opinions
- Judgments or case status
- Types of documents filed for certain cases
