The demands of today's competitive environment call for shift in the focus of management's attention from cost to time, writes the editor in her introduction to Quick Response in the Supply Chain. At the heart of this time-based competition is "a new corporate philosophy and a partnership strategy in which supplier, manufacturers and distributors work together to respond more quickly to consumer needs." The book arose out of research in the U.S. textile and apparel industry, but it covers a variety of industries, mostly in Europe. Contributors, from both academia and industry, look at such issues as systems integration, organizational integration, throughput management and outbound logistics in an effort to provide "an insight from a variety of angles into the contribution that Quick Response in the supply chain can make to the achievement of competitive advantage."
