A coping coach's advice on dealing with crisis.

"If I want it done right, I have to do it myself." "I'm too busy to focus." "I must never admit failure." Most everyone in corporate life has heard or sensed these sentiments from top executives, as has San Francisco-based psychologist and executive coach Alan Downs, author of this book and others on coping skills. His focus in Secrets of an Executive Coach is on executives in crisis. He describes how coaches identify problems (such as denial, indecisiveness, impulsiveness, for example) and guide clients back to a more meaningful and rewarding career, via case studies, tools such as guided imagery, and gives practical advice on overcoming time-worn psychological barriers. Although the book is aimed at other coaches, there is surely enough self-help material to assist anyone who isn't quite ready for a coach or the couch.
