Has mismanaged IT created a social crisis?
11/10/2003
This re-issued book by consultant and technology writer Michael Erbschloe takes a close look at the negatives of information technology ubiquity, and argues that it's time for this industry to address social responsibility. In his ten tenets of socially responsible IT management, the author covers IT-centric issues ranging from fighting for fairly paid, properly staffed IT departments, to safeguarding privacy, recycling used equipment, ethically managing intellectual property, using energy-efficient practices, and reducing the digital divide. Following socially responsible practices has inherent value, says the author. Besides that, it will surely save money and avoid future costs, he concludes.
