    Strategic Tools for Social Entrepreneurs

Tools to sharpen strategic thinking for nonprofits.
    4/1/2002
Strategic Tools is a follow-up to the authors' 2001 title, Enterprising Nonprofits (reviewed here last May. In this latest entry, new insights are offered on combining business entrepreneurship with practical nonprofit management strategies. Case studies shed light on new ways to think about strategic direction and nonprofit growth for nonprofits. Example: the nonprofit KaBoom! partnered with Ben and Jerry's to develop an ice cream flavor and arranged for a percentage of proceeds to be earmarked for building safe community spaces. Interviews with nonprofit leaders, visionaries, and thinkers in the field, including HBS professor Jim Heskett, enhance the book's overall value as a resource for nonprofit managers.
