    The Basics of Business History

    http://www.thestreet.com/basics/countdown/748433.html
The business events that shaped the 20th century
    10/12/1999
What were the most important events of the past 100 years of U.S. business history? theStreet.com created this ranked list, ranging from J.P. Morgan and the steel industry just after the turn of the 20th century to the giants of the high tech industry just before the turn of the 21st. It's a smartly written summary of turning points and milestones, including both obvious and unexpected picks. Each item is numbered and includes a short paragraph describing the event and its impact. It makes for fun and interesting reading, and, as with most subjective rankings, leaves plenty of room for argument as well.
