No sport captures performance numbers as well as baseball, but trying to get the sport's financial numbers can be another story. So this site, created by SABR (Society for American Baseball Research), is a much-needed resource.
In addition to the expected news ticker, there are plenty of current and historical data to keep you occupiedfor example, a massive Excel database with players' salaries dating back to 1985. Also here are records on team payroll back to 1977, arbitration decisions, franchise values, industry forecasts, and a list of baseball broadcasters back to the time of Babe Ruth.
Fascinating and useful original documents can be accessed, such as the National League constitution from 1876, landmark court decisions (Curt Flood, anyone?), and, of course, statements from the recent congressional hearings on steroids. Book reviews and busy user forums also keep the site fresh.
