    The Business of Football

Why it's tough to lose money in the National Football League.
    9/13/2004

With the National Football League starting another season last week, it might not be surprising to hear that American football is the most valuable and profitable team sport in the world, says this piece on forbes.com.

Using its famous lists, Forbes presents the ability to sort NFL teams by rank, current value, revenue, and operating income. Apparently, wins and losses don't always translate into value for football franchises. Last year's Super Bowl winner, the New England Patriots, ranks fourth on the Forbes team valuation list, while the Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Texans, who have won nothing but consolation, rank No. 1, 2, and 3 respectively.

There are also short articles on the aforementioned billion-dollar Redskins, Arizona Cardinals (the only team to have lost money in the last three years), the best coaches, and how club seating helps drive profits.—Sean Silverthorne
