The Haves and the Have Nots: The Abuse of Power and Privilege in the Workplace and How to Control It

Executive misbehavior that alienates employees—and how to fix it.
    11/18/2002
According to organizational consultant Dr. Harvey A. Hornstein of Columbia University, a culture of executive privilege undermines an organization's success. A more inclusive corporate culture can be achieved by sticking to "the Three R's" within an organization: rewards, respect, and recognition. The book offers advice on topics such as CEO compensation, handling employee theft, and layoff policies. If layoffs are unavoidable, Hornstein suggests telling those affected sooner rather than later. Many high profile CEOs and companies are spotlighted including Southwest Airlines, Sunbeam, and UPS. The book also includes extensive footnoting, pointing readers to academic studies and other sources on the subject. —Melissa Clarke
