A simple explanation of IP protection targeted to innovators and small business owners.
4/29/2002
Hovey describes patents, copyrights, trademarks and relying on trade secrets as ways to protect innovations. He goes beyond IP protection per se, touching on the province of the entrepreneur in bringing an innovation to market. The book is eminently practical, describing the hurdles and processes for each form of protection and the documentation or homework that is necessary for each. It is also rich in illustrations, perhaps to a fault. One patent document would be enough, but instead there are several, each spanning multiple pages and making it hard to follow the text. All in all, a good introduction to the topic; you'll be well informed for that talk with your attorney.
