    The Six Sigma Revolution

Six Sigma quality improvement from the manager's perspective
    1/16/2001
General Electric chairman Jack Welch once called Six Sigma "the most important initiative GE has ever undertaken" and "part of the genetic code of our future leadership." The Six Sigma approach to quality improvement was created at Motorola in the 1980s and popularized by GE and others in the 1990s. Eckes, a key figure in the implementation of Six Sigma at GE, departs from the mathematical explanations that fill many books on the subject to look at Six Sigma from a manager's perspective. "What makes Six Sigma different, in part, is its focus on the involvement of management at all levels of an organization," he writes. "This book addresses the elements management must institute to create an infrastructure for Six Sigma to work."
