    Transparency International

    The global coalition against corruption
    10/10/2000
Transparency is a key risk factor for global businesses. It is critical for companies to stay on top of both the state of corruption and the efforts to combat it in regions of operations or possible expansion. Transparency International (TI) is a worldwide leader in the fight against public sector corruption, and its Web site is a valuable source for the private sector as well. Particularly valuable are the resources in the Info Center. These include: the Bribe Payers Survey and Corruption Perception Index, which assess risk levels in individual countries as well as industries and areas of operation; the National Integrity Source Book, a collection of best practices for building and maintaining a country's national integrity system; and an extensive collection of working papers addressing topical and regional issues relevant to the global fight against corruption. As the Welcome page of the TI Web site states, the movement for transparency has multiple concerns: humanitarian, democratic, ethical and practical, "as corruption distorts the operations of markets and deprives ordinary people of the benefits which should flow from them."
