Accounting as beach reading.
6/23/2003
This book relates how the accounting profession got into its current troubles and what needs to happen to fix the problem. The author, a business journalist and former KPMG communications director, takes a refreshingly broad view of this topic, providing a thorough history of the profession as well as background information on factors leading up to the current crisis. Accounting is not normally a topic covered in beach reading material, but this book might have broken that rule. It's an accessible read and, given recent scandals, provides ample food for thought on the role of accounting and auditing in the current business environment.
