Valuation: Avoiding the Winner's Curse: Making Mergers and Acquisitions Work

Corporate valuation as a science and an art.
    4/29/2002
"The Winner's Curse" is a consistent problem in the M&A world. This is because the methods used for valuing companies vary according to the company. So how does a manager accurately value a target firm? Authors Ferris and Petitt show us how to avoid the Winner's Curse through careful and accurate corporate valuation. Their book directs us through this complicated world using case studies and financial examples. Along the way, however, they always remind us that: "Valuation is an art to be learned, not a science to be practiced." Although geared towards those in M&A valuation, this book is useful for anyone interested in corporate valuation.
