The editors argue that a lot of what passes for fact when thinking about the learning organization is based on outdated thinking. According to the editors, "the overall aim of this book is to develop an evidence-based and theoretically informed understanding of the transformation in the nature of work that affect the learning and skills requirements of jobs and individuals
" The office is no longer just a place to work; it's a place to learn. With that perspective, the authors argue, executives must consider a new social context for the workplace. Observations and recommendations for improving your own workplace are buttressed with contemporary examples. Some of the writers on this project were members of the Working to Learn Group, which produced the 1997 Working to Learn report.
